Neurometer counts recent departures around you and shows them as a pressure reading. A high reading means many people left in the last few minutes. It does not show how many people are still there, and it does not tell you whether a place is free. Despite the name, it measures nothing about people's minds or health.
While the app is open, it reads your location on the phone and turns it into a cell ID: a label for an area about 150 m across. Your coordinates never leave the phone.
Reading: to show pressure, the app sends the cell ID to our server and receives the reading for that cell and the cells around it. This happens whether or not contribution is enabled.
Contribution (optional, off by default): when enabled, the app also sends anonymous departure events, each consisting of a cell ID and a timestamp. Events are combined into short-lived pressure readings and then expire. No individual event history is retained.
Like any web request, these requests reach the server with your IP address, which is used to limit request rates. The hosting provider's standard request logs record the IP address and the requested cell ID for at most 90 days, then delete them. They are not used to build location histories.
Neurometer does not collect device identifiers, user accounts, location history, analytics, cookies, or any form of personal data. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising frameworks, and no tracking pixels. When contribution is disabled, no departure events are sent.
No individual departure events are sold, shared, or exposed to third parties. Neurometer contains no ad networks, no analytics services, and no social media integrations. Individual signals are aggregated server-side and never exposed.
Aggregated, non-identifiable pressure readings may be provided through commercial partnerships. These readings contain no individual signals and cannot be traced to any device or person.
